Environmental problems in Tbilisi - გარემო პრობლემები თბილისში

The Environmental Problems in Tbilisi

Generally, Environmental problems are the most important issue in the world but mostly we – people – do not notice attention to this fact. We might have known the general situation connected with environmental damages in the global world, but what happen in our city – in Tbilisi?
Tbilisi is one of the most polluted city in the world. On the world scale which indicates The highest and Lowest –ranked Cities Globally, Tbilisi takes 191st place before the African and Asian cities but it is the most polluted place among the European Capital cities. Besides that, the smog which is a type of air pollution – the Black thick smokes or fumes – became much more visible over Tbilisi than it was ten years ego. Georgian experts exclaim that the level of carbon dioxide (CO2) is twenty time times larger than it is standard. For instance: The norm of carbon dioxide contention in air is 5% percent while in Tbilisi it is more than 100% percent.
Unfortunately we have not only air pollution problems but unsolved littering issues too. In this case we should confess our own fault. Everybody see littering streets in Tbilisi. Most of us express annoyance to this fact but while we are throwing cigarette butts or plastic bottles and packets ourselves we do not remember our fault. We see only others offences. We do not pay attention special signs. For example if bins are only for cigarette butts we put in everything like: packets, bottles, papers but not cigarette butts at all. What we should do? What is the best way out to stop this process?
Firstly, something should be done from government. Connected to the first above-mentioned problem about air pollution, local government of Tbilisi says that unsolved air pollution issue will carry on until 2017.The facts indicates that air pollution has increased by 5 times larger than it was in 2003. Mostly it is caused by building works and car fumes. Also, amount of cars are visibly increased. For example: In 2007 there were 603 000 thousand cars in Tbilisi while in 2015 there are more than one million. From 2017 government is going to do strict reforms. For instance: they are going to pass the law about cars. From 2017 government will control the amounts of old cars in the city. Moreover, they are planning to create high fines connected to littering.
Personally, I think that not only strict fines or laws are good decision to root out environmental problems. I think that government should do encouraging activities for citizens. Once I heard from my teacher that the signs in European cities which are warning us, are positively written than in strictly way. We should compare these two warning sings: 1 - ‘Littering is strictly forbidden!’ or 2 – ‘Thanks!  That you are not littering’. I wanted to show that encouraging sings or activities have much better result than strict laws or high fines.
To conclude I will say that the environmental situation in Tbilisi is quite concerning. So, what we should do? Not only Government but also People should try to take care of their city which is pretty important place for them.
